Areas are unlocked and upgraded by upgrading the Town Hall. Upgrading Town Hall also allows access to new goods in the store.
ATTENTION: There is a difficulty spike by upgrading Town Hall to level 6 (harder difficulty areas appear more frequently, while opposite for lower difficulty areas). Therefore it is adviced to keep the level of the Town Hall at level 5 as long as possible (i.e. upgrade other buildings first until no longer meeting the level requirements) to save healing items and durability.
